Once a place for celebrating and socializing, bars are not considered safe anymore. Many people miss the opportunity to sit down at a bar and have a good time, so home bars and cold drinks after work make a comeback. Even though that can be satisfying in the summer, it doesn’t mean that you should drink something cold, especially if it’s not at your favourite pub.
What can we do to help solve the bar space shortage problem? The perfect home setup includes creating the most basic and classic cocktails. Modern times offer many ways to become a bartender, making your home bar the most fashionable in the area. You don’t even need to leave your home or put on any clothes to go out. Here are some ways to get started.
What you’ll need?
A good rule of thumb is to add only what you will use to a bar. Although it might seem tempting to fill a bar with all the liquor you can, this will only lead to wasted money and wasted space. Instead, it would help if you started with the basics, which coincidentally should also be the bar-owners favourite. Be aware that drink mixers and other additives should not be placed in the same space as the drink-mixing tools. Anything containing vodka, rum or whiskey (bourbon, scotch), and tequila should be considered first.
The type of drink will determine the mix. There are many options for starter drinks. You can use soda, fruit juices and bitters. However, you should avoid pre-made mixes because they often have high sugar levels and are not as good as fresh mixes. Pre-made mixers will not make a drink taste as authentic. Garnishes can be optional, but they are optional unless the bar-owner loves a particular drink.
Bar glasses can be anything, including martini glasses and wine glasses. Even rocks glasses are acceptable. These glasses can also be obtained over time and vary depending on how the drinks are made. A martini shaker and strainer are essential tools that every home bar should have. Depending on how big the bar is, you can have rows of glasses or just one or two. You can fit as many items as you like in the bar, but it won’t seem crowded.
Basic Drinks to Know
Everyone has a favourite. The classic martini is the most popular. You can make it with vodka or gin (and everyone has their opinion on which one is correct). For a Gin martini, you only need to add vermouth and bitters. It should be made with gin, vodka, vermouth, and if needed, some orange bitters. Add the ingredients to a shaker filled with ice. Stir well and garnish with a lemon peel.
Daiquiri
Daiquiri is another popular drink. It’s versatile and a crowd-pleaser. It comprises rum (2 ounces), fresh lemon juice (1 ounce) and 3/4ths of an ounce of simple syrup. You can either buy simple syrup or make your own. Add equal amounts of water and sugar to the boiling water until the sugar dissolves. You can add various fruits and juices to make a frozen drink. Ice can also be added.
Margarita
Another popular bar drink is the margarita. It’s a great choice all year. Two ounces of tequila, one-ounce Cointreau and once-ounce fresh lime juice are the foundation of this drink. Before adding the ingredients, cover the glass with lime juice. Then dip the glass in salt. You can then pour the mixture into a glass filled with fresh ice.
Champagne
Champagne cocktails are often thought to be only suitable for celebrations, but this is not true. It can be enjoyed all year. You can also substitute champagne with sparkling hard cider for a fun twist in the fall. Three ounces of champagne, one-third of an ounce cognac, two dashes of bitters and one sugar cube are the base of this drink:
- Add the sugar cube to the glass.
- Add the bitters and then the cognac.
- Add the champagne.
