You read that right… The future of food is here, and Sally the Robot is only the first to make a delicious meal with zero human contact.
Robotics may not be as far off as we think. Technology first brought us AI companions that can be operated from our smartphones. It has now brought another valuable innovation to the table: Sally, the Robot.
Chowbotics, a California-based company, created this AI food helper to help make food safer and more convenient. Although similar food robots have been used in countries like Japan, known for their innovation in the tech world, it has seen this first-ever in the US.
Sally the Robot would prevent the spread and transmission of harmful viruses like Covid-19. This would also ensure safety while shopping further down the line. Safety is the future for food service if Sally is the future supermarket.
These Smart Bots have Already Been Applied To Hospitals and College Campuses.
Sally the Robot is not unfamiliar with helping people with food consumption. The Robot can be used to assist students in choosing healthy fruit bowls. It can also be used in hospitals where patients and staff may have food without any human contact. It is designed to eliminate any previous contact to help students make healthy food choices. This makes the interaction fast, simple, and secure.
What Can They Do?
The Robot can hold 22 ingredients, which allows for more meals than most people think. This extensive menu is healthier than fast food and offers a safer alternative to fast food. Customers can place an order, grab the right serving dish (e.g. a bowl for a parfait), and then hold it under the food dispenser.
Although it sounds like something out of a sci-fi movie, it is a real thing and could help solve the problem of food safety in our modern world. Although the initial need was on campus ( though some already have great food) and in hospitals, Rick Wilmer, the company’s CEO, quickly turned his attention to supermarkets. Three people have already signed up, and there will be more. Sally’s food ranges from $5 to $11 and is made with fresh, high-quality ingredients. It would not be different from ordering at a café or restaurant.
Supermarkets eventually expressed interest in meals that could be cooked at home. This would make the Robot a one-stop-shop for future and current meals.
Grocery Store Sallys and How They Would Work Through An App
Chowbotics doesn’t plan to slow down when there is so much Sally can do. Chowbotics is working on an app to order from their smartphones. This will further enhance safety measures. This would eliminate the need for robot touch screens, leading to potential germs waiting in the wings.
The app will make ordering food easy and simple. Customers can leave the store with freshly prepared meals in a refrigerated container that is ready to go at any time. Talk about modernization.
